Under the Same Roof 2018

Event Detail

"Under the Same Roof" was held on 26 May 2018. IN Volunteer Group and the nearly 400 participants worked together to create the world record of the largest lip print, and through this event, triggered the community's attention and support to patients with rare diseases.

"Under the Same Roof" is one of the three main activities of the IN Volunteer Group every year. This year has come to the fifth session. Every year, we are holding the vision of “Under the same roof, everyone is equal” creating the direction of social integration, holding activities with different themes. Activities include experiencing the lives of people with disabilities, supporting disabled people to realize their dreams etc. This year, we created the theme of "True love, Voice out for the rare", through creating a new Guinness World Record to arouse everyone's love for patients with rare diseases.

According to the standards of the World Health Organization, disease happens on only 6.5-10 people per each 10,000 people are classified as rare diseases. Every year, there are new cases of rare diseases in Hong Kong. The rare diseases that majority people know include Mucopolysaccharidoses, Pompe disease, muscular dystrophy, etc. Although the number of cases is small, it poses a serious health threat to patients and put a heavy burden on the caregiver. At this moment, the prevention and protection of rare diseases in Hong Kong is far behind the gap between Europe, America and Asia. The Government has not yet established a clear definition of the rare diseases and has not formulated relevant medical and support policies. The public and even some health care workers and social workers are also very lacking in their knowledge of rare diseases.

On Saturday, IN brought along with friends and family and rare patients to Kwai Chung and divided them into different groups to print lip prints on the cloth with different colors of lipstick. The former Hong Kong TV journalist and anchor, Ms. Jo Ngai, was invited as the event ambassador and Mr. Hugh Wong, one of the members of Band “MGCY” was the host. Ms. Chan, the communications manager of the Equal Opportunities Commission, and Mr. Tinly Wong, the director of Invision Charity Foundation, and Dr. Timax Tsang, the chairman of Invision Charity Foundation, kicked off the event and they also gave lip prints with everyone to create a world record together. Invision Charity Foundation will allocate funds to distribute medical voucher to patients with rare diseases.

Finally, it took nearly 6 hours to complete the lip print of more than 231 square meters. In addition to the lip prints and heart-shaped pattern, there is also the word "LOVE NOT RARE", meaning love is not uncommon.

Thanks to all the efforts, every lip print represents a love. We raised more attention and support to rare diseases. This excellent result depends on every volunteer, thanks to your peers.
